Iris Iris takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, which is also the name for the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris. She travels with the speed of wind from one end of the world to the other, and into the depths of the sea and the underworld. The Greeks named the flower Iris because of its colors, it's as beautiful as the rainbows. In South East Asia, the legends of the Iris are more like fairy tales. Millions of years ago, Iris were only found in tropical forests, they're too beautiful that animals and bees loved them. Even wind and water had to stop and enjoy its view. The Israelis however, think the ellow Iris is a symbol of gold, and therefore the tradition of planting Iris is to hope for great fortune. The flower is like a flying butterfly. In May, the flower blooms, you can see blue butterflies amongst the green leaves, as if they're telling others that spring has come. French sees the flower as they're national flower, because it is said that when the king of the Kingdom of France, Clovis Ier was bapitized, God gave him a gift, which is Iris.
